The **Bark River Mountain Man 5″** is a classic fixed knife, designed on the basis of popular, old-fashioned Mountain Man knives. These knives were incredibly popular at the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th. With this new incarnation of the Mountain Man this model was revived. The Mountain Man is in particular perfect for hunting, food prep and bushcraft tasks. The blade has a very thin grind, making it a real *slicer*.
The blade is made from CPM 3CV-steel. A tool steel that is known for its exceptional strength. As such it won’t break and will retain its sharpness well. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: CPM 3V is not completely stainless. So clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by stropping it.
The handle is made from Desert Ironwood. A type of hardwood mainly found in the United States and Mexico. Characterizing is the beautiful colour and the rich pattern. This stunning type of wood makes the knife look extra luxurious.
The Bark River Kephart 5″ comes with a solid leather sheath. This sheath has a belt loop with enough room for belts up to 5.0 cm. This sheath is suited for left and right-handed use.
Bark River makes all of its knives almost completely by hand. As such each knife is unique. Especially when you are working with natural materials a knife can differ from the photographs. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
