The **Bark River Bravo 1** was designed for (para)military use, specifically for the United States’ Marine Corps. Soon, however, it became evident that this knife was capable of a whole lot more. Today the Bravo 1 is a beloved knife amongst bushcraft enthusiasts and hunters. It is solidly constructed with enough blade thickness for heavy-duty work. Perfect for wood work, gutting game and many other outdoor tasks.
The spine of this version is enhanced with a small piece of jimping, without ‘thumb ramp’.
The blade is made from CPM 3CV-steel. A tool steel that is known for its exceptional strength. As such it won’t break and will retain its sharpness well. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: CPM 3V is not completely stainless. So clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).
The handle is made from canvas micarta. A strong and light-weight material, made from linen and synthetic resin. Feels comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold circumstances.
The Bark River Bravo 1 comes with a leather belt sheath that offers many different carrying options. It is possible that the leather loop with press stud that keeps the knife in the sheath is a little difficult to close. This is because it was designed to keep its form throughout time which is why at first it might feel a little too tight. Fortunately this will stretch out on its own, even though a couple drops of water could also help the leather out a bit.
Bark River makes all of its knives almost completely by hand. As such each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials a knife can differ from the photographs. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
