The **Rick Hinderer Ranch Bowie** is a large and robust bowie knife, made by Rick Hinderer Knives. This is one of the knives that will bring a smile to your face even if you hold it for a minute. Because of its size, yes. But mostly because of its excellent quality and finish. This knife is amazing!
The massive bowie-blade stands out. Hinderer is known for using the bowie-blade shape for his pocket knives. However, this fixed knife adds a little more dimension with this size. Combined with the canvas micarta handle this leaves you with a tough and robust look. Nice about the micarta is how it absorbs the grease of your hand and therefore forms a type of patina. A such each knife will become unique in time.
Hinderer selected CPM 3V for the blade. This is a solid type of steel that is known for its strength. As such you never have to worry about it breaking. At the same time CPM 3V retains its sharpness well and is easy to sharpen. Do, however, be careful around salt, acid and moisture: CPM 3V is not completely stainless. Fortunately you get a lot of positive qualities in return for that one ‘flaw’. In addition, a drop of oil once in a while will definitely make a difference.
Hinderer could have opted for a simple sheath made from thin leather or kydex. He didn’t: to finish the Ranch Bowie he added a nice leather sheath. You can immediately tell that a lot of attention was paid to this sheath.
